As Nigerians step into the year 2026, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) extends its greetings to citizens across the country, even as our nation remains trapped in unprecedented hardship, worsening insecurity, and a rapidly collapsing economy—clear consequences of grossly incompetent, insensitive, and disconnected governance.
In a New Year message to Nigerians, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Comrade Ini Ememobong, charged the Federal Government to immediately wake up to its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, stressing that excuses, propaganda, and blame-shifting can no longer mask the suffering of the people.
According to Ememobong, “The foremost constitutional duty of government—the protection of lives and property—has been recklessly abandoned. From communities overrun by violence to families crushed by hunger, unemployment, and hopelessness, Nigerians are paying a heavy price for policy failures and a glaring leadership deficit.”
He warned that 2026 must not become another year of deception and broken promises, insisting that the era of governance driven by partisan survival must give way to leadership anchored on the welfare, security, and dignity of the Nigerian people.
“The PDP insists that the interests of Nigerians must come first—above party loyalty, political calculations, and desperate attempts to cling to power,” he said.
Ememobong reminded those in authority that power is held in trust for the people, not as an entitlement, adding:
“Leaders are not emperors or conquerors. They are temporary custodians of power. Government exists to serve the people—not to impoverish them, silence dissent, or weaponise state institutions against political opponents.”
The PDP also issued a stern warning to the judiciary, INEC, security agencies, and all democratic institutions to resist intimidation, reject compromise, and refuse to be instruments of political manipulation.
“Any democracy where justice is auctioned, elections are subverted, and impunity is protected is already on a dangerous path to collapse,” the party cautioned.
As a principled opposition, the PDP reaffirmed its solidarity with Nigerians in rejecting inequality, exclusion, and the reckless concentration of power and resources in the hands of a privileged few.
“We will not be silent while national wealth is squandered and citizens are pushed deeper into poverty. The PDP will continue to confront this administration, expose its failures, and mobilise Nigerians in the struggle for accountable, people-centred governance. We will not retreat. We will not be intimidated. We will not compromise on the future of Nigeria,” Ememobong declared.
The PDP wishes all Nigerians a Happy New Year and renews its commitment to the rescue and rebuilding of the nation.
