The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released comprehensive guidelines for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, alongside a list of common challenges candidates may face.
The update, announced via JAMB’s official X handle on Sunday, is aimed at helping prospective candidates prepare adequately ahead of the registration exercise.
Registration Procedure
According to JAMB, candidates must ensure that their personal details—including National Identification Number (NIN), email address, and A-Level results—are accurate before generating a profile code.
To generate a profile code, candidates are to send their 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 (e.g., NIN 00000011111 to 55019/66019).
Important notes include:
- Once a profile code is generated, it cannot be changed.
- Biodata is automatically sourced from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
- Candidates must visit the nearest JAMB office or approved CBT centre to complete registration.
- E-PINs should be purchased only from authorised banks, online platforms, or accredited vendors.
- The correct registration template must be used, and all information verified before final submission.
Critical Tips from JAMB
- Candidates must correct any errors with NIMC well ahead of registration and confirm that all changes reflect on their NIMC profile.
- Mobile numbers and email addresses act as unique identifiers—they must be active, correct, and must not be shared.
- Any candidate experiencing biometric capture issues should report to the nearest JAMB office. CBT centres are forbidden from forcing biometric registration.
- Registration centres must use a dual screen, enabling candidates to verify their passport photograph and biometric data in real time.
Common Challenges Identified
JAMB highlighted frequent issues encountered while generating profile codes:
- Error 55019/66019: Caused by incorrect formatting. Candidates must use the correct command (e.g., NIN 00000011111).
- “Number Already Registered”: Occurs when a phone number has been used previously. Candidates should retrieve the old SIM or use a new number.
- “Unable to Verify NIN”: Candidates should wait and attempt again later.
Registration Timeline
The sale of the 2026 UTME form will run from Friday, January 31, 2026, to Saturday, March 8, 2026.
