In a bid to boost agricultural development and attract foreign investment, a high-level delegation from Delta State, Nigeria, has visited one of Brazil’s largest and most innovative ranches.
The visit, initiated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is part of his administration’s drive to diversify the economy, promote food security, and create sustainable jobs for Deltans.
During the working tour, the delegation engaged with the ranch’s management, inspected facilities, and held discussions on possible areas of collaboration.
Key focus areas included modern cattle breeding, livestock management, pasture development, dairy production, and agro-processing.
Speaking at the ranch, the Leader of the Delegation and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Barry Pere Gbe, said Delta State is committed to transforming its agricultural sector through strategic partnerships and the adoption of global best practices.
“Brazil is renowned for its advancements in livestock and ranching, and we believe that collaboration in this sector will bring immense benefits to our people,” Dr. Gbe stated.
He added that the goal of the Oborevwori administration is to replicate successful models from Brazil, enhance local capacity, and attract direct investments into Delta State.
Other members of the delegation — including the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ada Val Arenyeka; Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Charles Aniagwu; Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Samuel Oligida; Director General of the Delta State Investment Development Agency, Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri; and Special Adviser on Investments, Barrister George Orogun, reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to job creation through economic diversification.
The Brazilian hosts, led by Mr. Gustavo Monaco, expressed optimism about partnering with Delta State, noting Nigeria’s large market and Delta’s fertile environment as strong advantages.
Both parties agreed to deepen engagements beyond the visit, exploring opportunities in investment, knowledge exchange, and technology transfer.
This initiative reflects Governor Oborevwori’s vision to position Delta State as a leading hub for agribusiness in Nigeria and West Africa. His administration remains focused on creating an enabling environment for investors, supporting local farmers, and leveraging international expertise to drive growth.
In line with the Governor’s directive, the delegation is expected to return with a comprehensive report and recommendations for implementing pilot ranching projects and other agricultural initiatives across the state.
