Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (Rtd.), will on Friday, October 3, 2025, publicly present his new book on the Boko Haram insurgency in Abuja.
The book, titled “Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum,” will be unveiled at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been invited as Special Guest of Honour, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo will serve as Chairman of the Occasion. The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, is expected to review the book.
According to Jonah Ejenavi, Chairman of the Book Launch Organising Committee, the 330-page book is a compelling and revealing account of the complex dynamics surrounding the Boko Haram terrorist organisation.
“The emergence of Boko Haram in 2002 ushered in an unprecedented era of bloodbath, destruction of property and economic devastation, not only in Nigeria but across the West African belt, with far-reaching regional, continental and global consequences,” Ejenavi said.
He added that Gen. Irabor’s experience as one of Nigeria’s leading military commanders against Boko Haram provides a rare insider perspective.
The book, divided into 14 chapters across three parts, traces Nigeria’s historical past while unravelling the roots of its security challenges; explores the Boko Haram conundrum; and outlines the paradigm shift required to restore and sustain peace in Nigeria despite the insurgency threat.
Reviewers have already described the work as “destined to change the Boko Haram narrative.”
