The Federal Government has cancelled the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Imohiosen did not give reasons for the cancellation but stressed that it would not diminish the importance of the national milestone.
“The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, October 1. The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
He explained that all other programmes lined up for the celebration under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” would go on as planned.
“The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation,” the statement added, urging Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to continue to support the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
