The management of the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), publishers of The Pointer Newspaper, has expressed profound gratitude to veteran journalist, media consultant and businessman, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, for donating N7.5 million towards the medical treatment of a staff member, Mr. Awele Ogbogu.
The organisation described the gesture as timely, lifesaving, and coming at a critical moment in Ogbogu’s ongoing medical care. The donation follows earlier financial contributions by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), The Pointer Chapel, who had rallied to support their colleague before Adebayo’s intervention.
General Manager of DPPC, Mrs. Rosemary Nwaebuni, commended Adebayo’s longstanding humanitarian spirit, noting that his generosity has remained consistent and impactful within and outside the media industry.
She said Adebayo’s support forms part of a track record of targeted interventions, especially in matters involving journalists’ health and welfare.
“We had earlier contributed from our modest income, believing every little effort counts. But what Asiwaju Adebayo has done is nothing short of transformative,” she said. “He has once again shown that he stands firmly with journalists, particularly in moments of health challenges. We pray that God continues to bless and uplift him for his unwavering kindness.”
Mrs. Nwaebuni also appreciated all individuals and organisations who contributed to the cause, including the Delta State Director of Statistics, Nkechi Maduemezia, and Mr. Sam Erhunmwese of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). She reaffirmed The Pointer management’s commitment to supporting its workforce and ensuring no staff member faces hardship alone.
Chairman of NUJ The Pointer Chapel, Comrade Godwin Nzemeke, also conveyed the chapel’s gratitude, describing Adebayo’s action as deeply touching.
“We are astounded and sincerely grateful for this act of philanthropy. We pray that God blesses him and replenishes his pocket,” he said.
In an emotional response, the beneficiary, Mr. Awele Ogbogu, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Adebayo, praying for his continued prosperity and strength to keep touching lives.
