A public affairs and security analyst, Mr. Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye, has advised Nigerians to be more safety- conscious during the Yuletide.
He said his advice was pegged on his personal observation of the heightened desperation of criminals during the period and the inclination of some sector workers, especially in the transportation business, to develop a dangerous attitude of undue haste in an effort to make more money to meet their Yuletide celebration goals.
Monye, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited, a frontline private security firm, and founder, Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye Foundation, said in a brief phone chat that Nigerians must come to the realization that there is no end to human wants and no viable alternative to life.
He said that while it was necessary for people to celebrate Christmas and the end of the year within the limits of their resources, they must not forget that only the living do so.
Besides,he stressed that celebrants, especially parents and guardians, must not lose sight of their prospective responsibilities to their dependants after the Yuletide.
Monye particularly advised transporters to avoid the psychology of unreasonable haste, which predisposes drivers to avoidable errors, thus endangering the lives of commuters.
According to Monye, safety on the road is as important as security from crimes. Hence, Nigerians needed to be safety- conscious during the Yuletide.
He urged drivers to avoid alcohol and drugs in order not to fall prey to the dangers posed by their effects, especially dizziness and hyper activity , both of which could make them more vulnerable to on- wheel errors.
Monye equally advised youths against drug and alcohol abuse as well as sexual promiscuity that could expose them to unwanted pregnancies and infections.
