President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Major General Haladu Anthony Hananiya (Rtd), on his 84th birthday, celebrated on January 2, 2026.
The President’s goodwill message was contained in a statement signed by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
Major General Hananiya had a distinguished military career, serving the nation in several strategic capacities, including as General Officer Commanding (GOC), Second Mechanised Division, Ibadan. He was also appointed Defence Adviser to the Nigerian High Commission in London from 1978 to 1981 and later served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in 1984, during a turbulent period marked by the attempted abduction of exiled politician, Alhaji Umaru Dikko.
He subsequently served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, with concurrent accreditation to Somalia, the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) between 1985 and 1987. He retired from the Nigerian Army in 1986.
Following his retirement, Major General Hananiya was recalled to national service and appointed Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), a position he held from 1994 to 1999.
President Tinubu described the elder statesman as a humble, dedicated public servant and disciplined military officer who remained committed to national service throughout his life.
“Major General Hananiya was a humble public servant and military officer, ever ready to serve his nation and community,” the President said.
“As the national leader of the Gongola People’s Forum, a socio-cultural association of all ethnic nationalities in Adamawa and Taraba States, he continues to provide purposeful leadership to his people.”
President Tinubu prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the elder statesman, wishing him many more years in good health, strength, and wisdom in service to his people and the nation.
