Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State is finalising plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), multiple sources within Government House have confirmed.
The anticipated move follows weeks of discreet negotiations involving the governor, senior ADC officials and key North-East political power brokers. If completed, the defection would mark one of the most significant blows to the PDP in recent years, stripping the party of a prominent governor and one of its most vocal figures within the Governors’ Forum.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days. ADC headquarters has already described the looming defection as a “turning point for Nigerian democracy,” signalling high expectations around its political impact.
Political observers say the development could trigger a wave of defections, as attention now shifts to which governors or federal lawmakers may follow in what insiders are calling “the great realignment.
