The Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised ₦230 million at its Stakeholders’ Summit held in Owerri, signalling the party’s growing political momentum and preparedness to challenge for power in the 2027 general elections.
Addressing party leaders and stakeholders at the summit, the Imo State Chairman of the ADC, Prof. James Okoroma, disclosed that the party has successfully established functional and operational structures in all 305 wards across the state. He said the ADC has concluded its organisational groundwork and is now fully mobilised to contest and win elections at the ward, local government, state, and federal levels.
Prof. Okoroma declared that the ADC is strategically positioned to confront and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties, describing the ADC as a credible alternative anchored on purposeful leadership, accountable governance, and people-centred development. He explained that the funds raised would be deployed to strengthen grassroots structures, intensify voter mobilisation, and sustain political engagement across communities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, urged party leaders and members to prioritise unity, discipline, and collective responsibility in building a strong and winning political platform. He expressed confidence in the ADC’s leadership and organisational depth, noting that with commitment and effective mobilisation, the party has the capacity to take over power in Imo State and make a significant national impact.
Also speaking at the summit, former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, called on party members to deepen political engagement and strengthen their connection with the electorate. He appealed to party leaders, professionals, business owners, and Imo indigenes in the diaspora to provide sustained financial and logistical support to enable the ADC overcome operational challenges and compete effectively in the forthcoming elections.
The summit recorded an impressive turnout of prominent personalities, including former political office holders, captains of industry, professionals, academics, party financiers, members of the clergy, traditional rulers, women leaders, and organised youth groups—underscoring broad-based support for the ADC across social and professional sectors in the state.
The event also witnessed the formal reception of new members who defected from the Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC). Notable among them were the PDP South-East Woman Leader, Hon. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arodiogbu; Hon. Chief Paul Mbadiwe; Hon. Innocent Davidson; Hon. Oby Esimogu (Benwosley); and Hon. Ikenna Esimogu, among others.
The summit ended with renewed pledges of loyalty and support from stakeholders, alongside firm commitments to strengthen party unity and expand the ADC’s footprint across communities in Imo State, as the party positions itself for what it described as a decisive moment in the state’s political future.
