The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 12 persons in a fatal multiple-vehicle crash that occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Gada Biyu along the Yangoji–Abuja corridor.
According to a statement by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Segun Ogungbemide, the accident involved four vehicles — a coal-laden commercial trailer, a commercial bus and two commercial cars.
Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speed and reckless driving were responsible for the crash. The trailer driver, who was allegedly speeding beyond the approved limit on the corridor, lost control and rammed into parked vehicles, triggering the deadly collision.
A total of 18 persons were involved in the accident. Five victims died on the spot, while seven others later died from their injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to 12. Three survivors sustained varying degrees of injuries, including bruises, cuts, fractures and head injuries, and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The FRSC has warned motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives on Nigerian roads.
