The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, has joined the people of Idjerhe Kingdom in celebrating His Majesty, King Monday Obukowho Whiskey, Udurhe I, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, on the occasion of his 60th birthday and fifth coronation anniversary.
The monarch, a former journalist who practised for many years in the Niger Delta region before ascending the throne of his forefathers, is being honoured for what the union described as a reign marked by peace, unity and remarkable development.
The twin celebrations, according to the NUJ, provide an opportunity to reflect on a reign that has brought stability and progress to the kingdom and its neighbouring communities.
In a goodwill message signed by its Chairman, Victor Okpomor, and Secretary, Edeki Igafe, the chapel commended the monarch for his “immeasurable contributions” to the peace and development of Idjerhe Kingdom since his ascension five years ago.
“Your Majesty, your reign in the past five years has undoubtedly ushered in immeasurable peace, unity and development to Idjerhe Kingdom,” Okpomor stated.
He noted that the impact of the monarch’s leadership has gone beyond the traditional boundaries of Idjerhe Kingdom, positively influencing neighbouring communities and stakeholders across Delta State.
“No doubt, the impacts of your reign have transcended beyond Idjerhe Kingdom and are still counting,” he added.
The NUJ also acknowledged the monarch’s consistent support for the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, describing his relationship with journalists as one built on encouragement, guidance and mutual respect.
“Your support, moral backing and invaluable advice to the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel have not gone unnoticed. We will continue to cherish and appreciate your fatherly role,” the statement read.
As the Ovie marks a milestone age and half a decade on the throne, the union offered prayers for continued wisdom, strength and good health, expressing confidence in his capacity to lead the kingdom to greater heights.
“We pray that God Almighty will continue to grant Your Majesty the wisdom, knowledge and strength to govern your people and move Idjerhe Kingdom to an enviable height,” Okpomor said.
The NUJ concluded by wishing the monarch many more years of impactful leadership, describing his reign as a source of blessings to the kingdom.
“May your reign continue to bring incredible blessings to Idjerhe Kingdom. Once again, congratulations to His Majesty,” the union stated.
The message ended with the traditional salute of the Idjerhe people:
“Urhie! Urhiel!! Urhie!!! Wo Su Tor.”
