US President Donald Trump says German and a little Japanese would have dominated global lingua franca had America not intervened.
Trump spoke on Wednesday when he took the stage at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, to tell European leaders the US won World War II “big”.
“Without us right now, you would all be speaking German and a little Japanese,” he said.
Before his claim, Trump brought up his Greenland takeover ambitions.
“Denmark fell to Germany after just six hours of fighting, and was totally unable to defend either itself or Greenland. So the United States was then compelled, and we did it,” he said.
He expressed frustration at the US’ decision at the time to allow Denmark to retain Greenland as a territory.
“After the war, we gave Greenland back to Denmark. How stupid were we to do that? But we did it. But we gave it back, but how ungrateful are they now?” the US president said.
“So now our country and the world face much greater risks than it did ever before, because of missiles, because of nuclear weapons of warfare that I can’t even talk about.”
Trump said he was “seeking immediate negotiations to once again discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States” but ruled out options of using force.
