A frontline public affairs analyst and philanthropist has called for a massive response to the ongoing Ward -to- ward registration by the Nigeria Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
Making the call at the weekend in a brief telephone chat from Agbor,.Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye, anchored his plea on the importance of the exercise.
Monye, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the local government area, said the ongoing exercise was suitable because of its decentralization.
According to him, by decentralizing the exercise, the commission had gone out of the convention by taking the registration exercise to each ward of the state.
He stressed that, on account of its beneficial economic and time factors, the decentralization had provided those yet to register to do so within reasonably near geographic centres.
Monye said that the importance of the registration, which enabled registrants to have the National Identity Card, could not be over- emphasized.
He said that aside from its huge psychological effect, the National Identity Card was also a potent instrument for enhancing security for the benefit of the citizenry.
The public affairs analyst added that aside from etching a sense of belonging in registrants, participation in the exercise would give a fair idea of the demography of any area.
Monye said that the demographic size of any area could influence the decision of the government regarding the distribution of facilities and services.
Consequently, he called for the massive response to the ongoing exercise by those yet to register for the identity card to do so.
