Following a joint investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Federal Ministry of Aviation, five security personnel have been detained in connection with the February 12, 2026 security breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
Those detained are:
Ayuba Yakubu (ASP) – Nigeria Police
Murtala Inuwa – DSS
Najeeb Murtala (ASI) – NIS
Musa Adamu – Aviation Security (AVSEC)
Salihu Victor – AVSEC
According to preliminary findings from the multi-agency probe, the officers allegedly received financial inducements to facilitate unauthorized access into restricted areas of the airport and to obstruct lawful security operations.
The affected personnel have reportedly been transferred to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Sources also indicate that additional officers from the NIS and NCS may face internal disciplinary action over administrative infractions, including alleged misuse of official uniforms to grant unauthorized access. These actions, however, are not presently classified as criminal offences.
As of press time, no official public statement has detailed any direct involvement of political figures in the incident.
Authorities are expected to provide further clarification as investigations continue.
