The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited, Mr. Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye, has applauded Nigerian women and girls on the occasion of this year’ s International Women’s Day.
He said that women and girls remained core assets for the sustainable development of the society.
Monye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, in a statement to mark the day, said that Nigerian women and girls had historically played strategic roles as children, wives and mothers in the traditional family stead, and as effective community and corporate leaders in the society.
Holding the family as the foundation of the larger society, Monye noted that women, as wives, mothers and care- givers, had always been frontliners in the sustenance of humanity and the proper upbringing of children, the single most vital asset of any society.
Going down.memory lane, he recalled the indomitable roles played by great women leaders as the inimitable Amazons of Benin, Queen Amina of Zauzau, now called Zaria; Queen Moremi of Oyo Empire, Queen Idah of Benin Empire, the legendary Margaret Ekpo, who led the Aba Women’s riots of 1929; Prof Grace Alele- Williams, first female Vice-Chancellor of a public university in Africa, and Mrs Titilayo Ransome -Kuti, mother of legendary musician, Fela Anikulakpo- Kuti.
The Monaco boss also recalled the recent exploits of Nigerian sports women, especially D’Tigress and the Super Falcons, as classic examples of the great contributions of women and girls, past and present, to the development of the country.
Reflecting on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Rights, Justice. Action For All Women and Girls,” Monye called for enhanced support for women and girls in order to encourage them to attain full self- realization, for the good of the society.
He called, particularly, for an end to all cultural and misogynistic tendencies in the society, to enable women and girls make even greater contributions to its sustainable development.
