A private aircraft conveying David Jimkuta, the senator representing Taraba South, was forced to make an emergency mid air return to Abuja after developing a engine fault six minutes after take-off, RadarrNews has learnt.
According to the senator, the incident occurred last Saturday March 7, 2026, while he was travelling to Kashimbila airport for religious activities.
The statement from the office of Senator David S.U Jimkuta, reads: “The Senator was en route to Kashimbila Airport, proceeding onward to Takum and Wukari, to attend the 2026 Zion Conference in Takum and to visit the Catholic Diocese of Wukari to commiserate with the Church over the recent fire incident that engulfed the St Mary’s Cathedral, Wukari.
“After an initial delay due to weather conditions, the private aircraft conveying the Senator and members of his delegation successfully took off from Abuja. However, approximately six minutes into the flight, an alarm sounded and the pilot informed passengers of a technical fault.
“Acting with professionalism and in line with aviation safety protocols, the pilot immediately turned the aircraft back to Abuja, where it landed safely.
“Also on board were the President of the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRCN), Rev. Dr Magaji Jirape, former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Istifanus Gbana and the newly elected APC Youth Leader, Adi Shekarau Masa-Ibi. All passengers and crew members returned safely to Abuja, and we thank God for His mercy and preservation.
“Senator Jimkuta expresses profound gratitude to Almighty God for sparing their lives. He equally extends heartfelt appreciation to the many Nigerians, friends, associates, and well-wishers who have reached out with calls, messages, and prayers upon hearing of the incident.
“The Senator remains undeterred by this unfortunate development. On the contrary, he is even more resolute in his commitment to serve God, support the Church, and continue his work for the peace, development, and spiritual growth of Taraba South and beyond.”
