The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The nominees were screened on Monday during a plenary session at the State Assembly in Port Harcourt.
Following the screening exercise, the Assembly confirmed five nominees: Mr. Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Mr. Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
However, four nominees were rejected by the lawmakers. They include Professor Datonye Alasia, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.
The Assembly said Professor Alasia was rejected due to what it described as “poor performance.” Alasia is the immediate past Chairman of the Chief Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).
Otonye TKD Amachree was also rejected following allegations that more than 11 petitions were submitted against him by members of his community concerning his involvement in community matters.
Mrs. Deemua was not confirmed after she reportedly failed to present her tax clearance documents during the screening.
Tamuno Williams, on the other hand, was stepped down by the Assembly for allegedly “misleading the public about the activities of the Assembly.”
