About 10,000 widows under the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have received their February 2026 monthly stipends from the Delta State Government, as beneficiaries across the three senatorial districts offered prayers and thanksgiving for the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Coordinator of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Elder Isioma Okonta, led members of the scheme’s management team on a tour of the senatorial districts for special prayer sessions in appreciation of the governor’s continued support for vulnerable widows in the state.

Speaking during the visit to Delta Central Senatorial District in Okpe Local Government Area, Okonta highlighted the importance of the Widows Welfare Scheme, noting that the initiative had continued to alleviate the suffering of many vulnerable widows across the state.

He explained that the programme was in line with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises social welfare and inclusive development.

Okonta said the prompt payment of monthly stipends to beneficiaries had helped many widows meet basic needs and regain a sense of dignity, adding that the scheme had become a strong support system for thousands of families.

At the end of the visit, beneficiaries offered prayers and thanksgiving for the governor, expressing appreciation for what they described as his compassion and commitment to improving their welfare.

Many of the widows prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the governor for “wiping the tears of vulnerable widows” in the state.

The beneficiaries also commended Okonta for his leadership of the scheme, particularly for ensuring prompt payment of stipends and approving routine meetings between beneficiaries and their various area coordinators.

Similar prayers and thanksgiving sessions were also held in Ozoro, Isoko South Local Government Area, in Delta South Senatorial District, as well as in Ndokwa West Local Government Area in Delta North Senatorial District.

According to the coordinator, the tour further sensitised beneficiaries to the objectives of the MORE Agenda and encouraged them to remain supportive of the policies and programmes of the state government.

He urged the widows to continue to serve as good ambassadors of the governor in their communities.

The high point of the events across the senatorial districts was the endorsement of Governor Oborevwori by beneficiaries of the scheme, who pledged their support for him up to 2031.

Members of the Widows Welfare Scheme Management Team who accompanied Okonta on the tour included the Head of Delta Central Monitoring Team, Hon. Uko Martins; Head of Delta South Monitoring Team, Mr Felix Ofuo; Comrade Ahmed Atumremuro; Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Sunday Achike; Project Accountant, Mr. Ogaga Kelvin; Training Officer, Mr. Henry Ifeogwu; Project Assistant, Chioma Okunebe; Coordinator for Ndokwa West, Barr. Mrs. Omude Ochonogor Ochibe; and Ambassador Carolyn Usikpedo, Coordinator for Isoko North Local Government Area, among others.
