In a demonstration of religious harmony and inclusiveness, the member representing Warri Federal Constituency, Thomas Eriyetomi, has donated a total of N20 million to ten mosques within and beyond his constituency.
The gesture, announced during an event held over the weekend in Warri, drew a large and diverse gathering, including members of the Muslim community, traditional rulers, stakeholders, and opinion leaders, particularly from northern extraction.
Addressing attendees, Eriyetomi emphasized that the initiative was aimed at fostering unity, strengthening interfaith relations, and giving back to society. He noted that the outreach would become an annual tradition.
“We are here to share love with one another, whether Christian or Muslim. This is about promoting unity and supporting one another as a community,” he said.
The lawmaker commended the peaceful coexistence in the constituency and acknowledged the consistent support of the Muslim community, especially during elections and festive periods like Sallah.
He also urged constituents to remain supportive following his political move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that his priority remains attracting development to the area.
Eriyetomi further highlighted ongoing efforts by the Delta State government under Sheriff Oborevwori and the federal administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in delivering democratic dividends.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Francis Omatseye, praised the lawmaker’s commitment to inclusive leadership and community empowerment, describing the initiative as a model for societal development.
Similarly, the Seriki Hausawa of Warri and Environs, Muhammed Bello, represented by Adamu Muhammed, expressed appreciation for Eriyetomi’s continued support to the Arewa community. He, however, appealed for increased employment opportunities for graduates within the community.
The event featured the presentation of funds to the mosques, with beneficiaries describing the donation as unprecedented and reflective of the lawmaker’s dedication to unity and grassroots development.
Speakers also encouraged residents to uphold the values of Ramadan—charity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence—as essential pillars for sustaining interfaith and communal harmony.
