Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has launched a scathing critique of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the anti-graft agency of shielding high-ranking members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from prosecution.
Speaking in a candid interview with Trust TV, Dalung pointed specifically to the current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, alleging that a high-profile investigation involving him appears to have been abandoned.
Dalung recounted an incident from his tenure as minister under the previous administration. He claimed that under the leadership of former acting EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu, Akpabio who was then a former governor—was not only arrested but was linked to significant physical evidence.
According to Dalung, the EFCC at the time made a public display of the alleged proceeds of crime.
He questioned why the momentum of that investigation vanished as Akpabio’s political career transitioned into the current administration.
“The last time he went to EFCC, they invited him; he said he was sick, and he has been sick up to today.”
Recalling the event, Dalung stated:
“If I see Akpabio who was arrested by EFCC when I was a minister, Magu paraded the boxes of dollars, where has that one gone to?”
The former minister further alleged that the Senate President has successfully avoided subsequent interrogations by citing health issues.
Dalung suggested that these claims of illness have served as a convenient shield against further legal scrutiny.
“The last time he went to EFCC, they invited him he said he was sick and he has been sick up to today,” Dalung remarked during the interview.
