A serving Councillor in Aniocha North Local Government of Delta State, Nwabude Sije Davies, has broken faith with the import of the mass defections into the All Progressives Congress APC in Delta State
The defections have so far affected the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,his immediate past predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, legislators in state legislature and in the National Assembly, local government chairmen, civil commissioners and other political appointees.
The move followed a stakeholders meeting in Asaba at which the echelon of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state was present.
A core ceremony to publicly seal the defections is slated for Monday, April 28, at a high brow event in Asaba, at which Vice President, Kassim Shetima, is expected to receive the defectors into the APC.
But ahead of the Monday event, evidence has emerged to the effect that a Councillor has not bought into the idea.
The Councillor, who represents Ward Seven in the legislative arm of Aniocha North Local Government, said he would not join the APC, sain hd did not want to be part of those who, by their actions, had endorsed the suffering g of Nigerians under the APC – Federal Government.
In an undated statement, Nwude said he could not trade his voice for silence in the light of the poor leadership of Nigeria by the APC administration.
Specifically, he said, inter alia, “Let it be known, loud and clear: I will not decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Not today. Not tomorrow. Not under duress. Not for political favors. Not for crumbs from the table of power. No amount of pressure, intimidation, or political blackmail will bend my resolve.
I did not join politics to become a pawn in a game of personal ambition. I joined this struggle to fight for justice, equity, and a better Nigeria not to be part of a machinery that has, over time, abandoned the people and weaponized poverty to retain power.
Yes, I have respect for my boss. I acknowledge the role he has played in my political growth. But respect is not submission. Loyalty is not slavery. I was elected to serve the people with conscience and courage which i did diligently as councilor of the Aniocha North Legislative Arm 7th Assembly.
Let’s speak the truth: the APC today is not a party of progress — it is a fortress of broken promises.
What have they done with the power Nigerians entrusted to them? Our economy is in shambles. Insecurity has become a daily nightmare. Hunger walks freely in our streets. Youths are unemployed. Institutions are weakened. Corruption is recycled and rewarded. And yet, they want us to fold our arms and join the chorus of deception?
Count me out.”
According to him, “To join the APC now is to endorse failure. It is to spit on the sufferings of our people. It is to betray the very cause that brought us into politics in the first place. I cannot, in good conscience, align myself with a party that has proven time and again that power matters more to them than people.
I will not trade my voice for silence. I will not exchange principle for position. Let them call me stubborn. Let them isolate me. Let them threaten me. But I would rather stand alone with truth than sit in comfort with lies.
Nigeria deserves better.
And I will continue to stand with the people not with those who have turned governance into a private enterprise. My future does not lie in aligning with a sinking ship; it lies in building a new political consciousness where leaders are accountable, and the people come first.”
Nwabude said, “History will judge us all. And when it does, I want it to be said that I stood on the side of truth — even when it was not popular, even when it was not easy”
