The Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka Professor Samuel Asagba has vowed to ensure that the Institute will maintain its leading position among the state owned universities in the country.
According to him, the university has already achieved a lot of successes obtainable in standard universities across the country.
He made these remark on Tuesday while briefing the Press on his one year in office as Vice-Chancellor of the institute, insisting that the university also rank among the best twelve universities in the country.
Prof. Asagba whose press conference is also to herald the convocation ceremony coming up this weekend, said he will not rest on his oars of making Delsu a highly standard university in the world.
“My vision is to make Delsu a centre of academic excellence producing employable graduates with critical thinking skills and a sense of nationalism”, stressed the university helmsman.
“I am one year, four months old in office, my administration has made a lot of changes to make both the staff and students comfortable, even a lot of both the academic staff and workers have been promoted within this period”, the vice chancellor further said, promising that nobody will be left out in the scheme of things.
According to him, a lot of projects, including renovation of classes and theatre hall are being done just as we are in a long time project, geared towards improving the facilities in the institution.
Responding to numerous questions from the press, Prof. Asagba promised that students’ school fess will remain as it is adding that it will not be increased.
Prof. Asagba promised to launch a fund raising initiative to promote sport in the Institute and promised to reach out to eminent Deltans and wealthy Nigerians to assist in this direction.
According to him, when he came on board, there were a lot of worrisome issues, ranging from extortion, sexual harassment and all forms of unpalatable issues, adding “But now, all that, have gone and advised both staff and students to continue to be of good behavior”.
