The Director -General(DG) and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has inaugurated a high-powered committee to review the Institute’s achievements over the past one year and assess progress on its 10-year strategic work plan.
The committee is also tasked with planning activities to mark Shaibu’s one-year anniversary in office as DG/CEO of the Institute.
Speaking during the inauguration, Shaibu emphasized the importance of accountability, strategic evaluation, and forward planning in repositioning the Institute to meet global standards.
He noted that the committee would critically examine the Institute’s performance since his assumption of office, with a view to identifying milestones recorded, challenges encountered, and areas requiring improvement.
According to him, the review will also measure how far the Institute has gone in implementing its 10-year strategic plan, which was designed to transform NIS into a leading hub for sports development, research, and training in Nigeria and beyond.
The DG further charged members of the committee to carry out their assignment with diligence, objectivity, and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that their findings would play a key role in shaping future policies and programs of the Institute.
The committee is chaired by the Bursar of the Institute, Nyakno Oluokun, while Dr. Maryam Nasko, Head of Administration, serves as Secretary. Dr. Remu Majoroh, a Consultant, will function as the Technical Coordinator.
Other members include representatives from various departments of the Institute, including the Registrar, Aisha; renowned football coach, Ladan Bosso; Mrs. Madaki; Ben Ogbemudia.
The committee is expected to submit its report within a stipulated timeframe, providing a comprehensive assessment of the Institute’s activities and recommendations for improved performance, alongside a roadmap for a befitting one-year anniversary celebration.
