Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi have formally submitted their presidential nomination and expression of interest forms on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential primary election.
Both aspirants submitted their forms on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, signaling the start of what could become one of the most closely watched opposition contests ahead of 2027.
Renowned Economics and Banker Mohammed Hayatudeen earlier submitted his presidential nomination and expression of interest forms on Wednesday in Abuja.
In a message shared on X, Atiku described the development as part of a broader national movement aimed at “restoring prosperity and better days” to Nigeria. He called on Nigerians across regional and religious divides to support the ADC’s mission of renewal and national recovery.
Amaechi also confirmed his participation in the race via X, saying he entered the contest to help “salvage” Nigeria and restore dignity, unity, peace, and prosperity to the country.
The ADC has already released its timetable for the 2026 primaries:
State Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate primaries — May 21, 2026
Governorship primaries — May 22, 2026
Presidential primary — May 25, 2026
The emergence of both Atiku and Amaechi on the same platform is expected to intensify political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, particularly within opposition circles.
