Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C), comprising House of Representatives and House of Assembly flagbearers, at the weekend paid a thank-you visit to the Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South, Abba Patrick Moro, in appreciation of his support before, during, and after the party primaries.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, retired Major General Ode Ede, the PDP candidate for Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, said the visit was organized to express gratitude to Senator Moro for his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering support.
“We are here to appreciate you for your support to us individually and collectively,” Ede said.
He assured the senator of the candidates’ commitment to securing victory for the PDP in the 2027 general elections, adding that Senator Moro’s contributions to the district had earned him widespread goodwill among the people.
“Wherever we go, your name is mentioned positively because of what you have done. We are ready and willing to accompany you everywhere if we know your itinerary,” he said.
The candidates presented kola nuts and other gifts to the senator as a token of appreciation, noting that they could never adequately repay him for his support and sacrifices.
Responding, Senator Moro thanked the candidates for the visit and congratulated them on emerging victorious in the primaries.
“Your victory is a result of your hard work, your connection with the people, and the will of God. We thank God for your success, but this is only the beginning of the journey. It is not over until it is over,” he said.
The Senate Minority Leader urged the candidates to immediately begin preparations for the 2027 elections, stressing the need for unity, reconciliation, and grassroots engagement.
He advised them to reach out to aspirants who lost during the primaries and work towards healing divisions within the party.
“The first thing after the primaries is to identify those who are unhappy because they lost and go and reconcile with them. No matter how strong a party is, candidates must work harder,” he said.
Moro warned against complacency, noting that the PDP would face stiff competition from other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
He also emphasized prudent management of campaign funds and cautioned candidates against misusing resources meant for electioneering.
Drawing from past political experiences, Moro recounted how some candidates squandered campaign funds on personal acquisitions and subsequently lost elections.
The senator further urged the candidates to be mindful of the people around them, avoid unnecessary conflicts, and remain focused on building strong grassroots structures.
Addressing the PDP candidate for Otukpo/Ohimini, Moro specifically advised reconciliation with a key stakeholder identified as G12, noting that the individual’s support base and political structure could prove valuable during the election.
Reaffirming his commitment to the party’s success, Moro pledged continued financial and political support to all PDP candidates in the district.
“On my part, I will support you financially. We may not have a sitting governor or heavyweight backing us, but we have the people. When it comes to political fights, I do not get tired,” he said.
He encouraged the candidates to strengthen their connections with the electorate, identify genuine supporters for future empowerment programmes, and remain vigilant against political saboteurs.
“If all of us win our elections, more people will be encouraged to join us. Connecting with the people is very important. I need you to win with me,” he added.
The meeting ended with renewed assurances of cooperation between the candidates and the Senate Minority Leader as the PDP begins preparations for the 2027 general elections in Benue South.
