The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Edo/Delta Area Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and sustained collaboration with the media as part of efforts to enhance public understanding of its operations and contribute to national development.
The assurance was given by the Area Comptroller, Comptroller Judith Kanu, when she received the newly elected executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, during a courtesy visit to the Command.
Comptroller Kanu emphasized the critical role of the media in nation-building, describing journalists as a vital link between government institutions and the public through responsible and accurate reporting.
According to her, the media remains indispensable in informing, educating and creating awareness about government policies and activities, adding that the Customs Service values its relationship with journalists.
She assured the visiting journalists that the Edo/Delta Area Command would continue to uphold transparency in its operations and ensure timely dissemination of accurate information to the public.
The Comptroller also commended media practitioners for their contributions to peace, security and national development, urging them to maintain professionalism and ethical standards in carrying out their responsibilities.
Earlier, Chairman of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Chief Akpokona Omafuaire, Esq., congratulated the Command on its impressive revenue performance, having generated about ₦125.13 billion between January and December 2025.
He described the feat as a testament to the dedication, efficiency and commitment of officers and men of the Command in discharging their duties.
Omafuaire reiterated the Union’s readiness to partner with the Nigeria Customs Service in information dissemination and public enlightenment initiatives aimed at promoting national development.
The NUJ chairman also renewed calls for the revitalization of the Warri Port, noting that its full operational capacity would significantly boost economic activities in the region and enhance national trade.
He explained that the visit was intended to formally introduce the new leadership of the Chapel to the Customs Command and strengthen existing ties between both institutions.
Omafuaire further described the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel as one of the most active media bodies in Delta State and commended TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited for providing a modern secretariat for the Union.
He stressed that journalists remain partners in progress, committed to constructive engagement with institutions and stakeholders for the advancement of society.
The visit concluded with both the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel and the Nigeria Customs Service, Edo/Delta Area Command, expressing commitment to deepening cooperation and fostering a mutually beneficial relationship in the interest of national development.
