The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who said Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from the country’s geopolitical zones.
According to the party, Amaechi emerged as runner-up in the ADC presidential primary and enjoys broad support among party members across the federation.
In a statement issued by the party leadership, the ADC described the proposed Atiku Abubakar–Rotimi Amaechi ticket as a partnership designed to provide experienced leadership and offer Nigerians an alternative ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party highlighted Amaechi’s public service record, noting that he served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State for two terms, and Minister of Transportation. The ADC said his experience in both the legislative and executive arms of government would strengthen the party’s presidential ticket.
The statement further noted that Amaechi’s political influence in the South-South region and his experience in governance and public administration would complement the candidacy of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The ADC expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen its coalition and enhance its campaign efforts as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
The party also called on its members, coalition partners, civil society groups, youth organizations, women leaders, and supporters across the country to support its campaign for national renewal and development.
