Recently, the staff members of the Education Research Center (ERC) received tutorials from personnel of the Foundation for Correction of Moral Decadence (FCMD) at a Positive Result- Oriented Attitudinal Change Seminar in Abuja.
The event drew a massive participation by staff members of ERC.
At the event, the National President of Foundation, Dr. Joseph Danley, drew the attention of the participants to various issues bedeviling our country, especially our workplaces, public and private.
Danley said the vices harmed the national project and called for a positive attitudinal change among Nigerians.
According to him, many Nigerians had cultivated a wrong culture that manifests in the vices which he named as
lack of genuine love bordering on a cordial relationship with colleagues and other Nigerians in general, pervasive corruption, lack of time- consciousness, especially in relation to official duties and responsibilities , thearm-twisting of clients , contractors and others.
Inadequate personal hygiene and the
lack of a good maintenance, sustenance and preservation culture.
He listed the other vices as undue and
unnecessary phone calls by public officers, and the profuse personal religious engagements at the expense of public service as well as record manipulation to cheat on the official retirement age.
Danley said the cumulative effects of the vices impair the efficiency of not only the public service, but also the larger national project, aside from creating and sustaining a poor image of the average civil servant and the civil/ public service.
Noting that no country had ever developed optimally with a vice- infested public sector, the President of FCMD appealed to Nigerians for a positive change of heart , warning that until the citizens developed a positive mindset towards the country and its development goals, it would remain underwhelming.
The highly successful event featured a questions – and- answers section .
