Tinubu reaffirms commitment to education as key to combating poverty at Emeka Anyaoku institute launch

President Tinubu, at the commissioning of the Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, reiterated his government’s commitment to education as the key to combating poverty.
He highlighted substantial investments in the education sector, particularly tertiary institutions, but warned against misuse of autonomy.
Addressing the university’s governing council and management, Tinubu acknowledged recent interventions to curb administrative issues, emphasizing that such abuses will not be tolerated.
Praising Emeka Anyaoku’s contributions to democracy and nation-building, Tinubu emphasized the importance of investing in education, citing Anyaoku as a model of leadership.
He commended Governor Soludo and others for honoring Anyaoku’s legacy.
The President also stressed the need for proper maintenance of new facilities, attributing the poor state of many public institutions to inadequate upkeep.
He urged the university to ensure the upkeep of the newly commissioned institute.
Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Ikechebelu welcomed the President’s visit, praising his “education and university-friendly” approach and highlighting the university’s recent gains from federal funding, including TETFund grants and CNG buses.
The institute, funded by friends of Anyaoku, aims to memorialize his diplomatic work and contribute to the university’s growth.
