In a significant move toward rebuilding and revitalizing its local government structure, the Ika South chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today convened for its first general meeting since the defection of party executives to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The rebirth meeting held at Mariere Street, Agbor. The gathering marked an important milestone for members, considering the turbulence that led to the collapse of the party’s structure from LGA, Wards to unit levels.
The meeting was well-attended, highlighting the determination of leaders and supporters to pick up the pieces and chart a new course for the PDP in Ika South. Despite challenges in the past, party members exuded optimism and a collective commitment to a more united front as they work to elevate the party’s presence in the local political arena.
Nominees for leadership roles were discussed extensively during the meeting, with members seeking a reliable figure to guide them until the National Party directive is established. After rounds of deliberation, Mr. Jude Obuh was nominated to take charge of the party’s affairs in the interim. Obuh expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to work collaboratively with all members to ensure the smooth functioning of the party at the grassroots level.
Elder Emmanuel Ogidi’s upcoming visit to the local government area (LGA) was also a key highlight of the meeting. The announcement was met with enthusiasm as members anticipated guidance and support from a respected party elder.
Ogidi, noted for his extensive experience and leadership within the PDP, is expected to play a crucial role in reinvigorating the party’s dynamics in Ika South.
During the session, notable figures from the party structure addressed their concerns and expectations. Hon. Jude Obianke reflected on the need for strategic planning and collective efforts to regain the party’s lost ground. He emphasized that unity was essential for the PDP to regain its status and influence in the 12 wards.
Hon. Chinedu Eghor also took the floor, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in party operations.
Eghor highlighted that the principles were vital for strengthening trust between the leadership and the party’s base, stressing that a united PDP would be better equipped to engage with the electorate effectively.
Hon. Kenneth Ojemudia brought a message of encouragement, calling on members to remain resilient amidst the challenges they have faced. He reminded attendees of past successes that the PDP had achieved when working together, urging everyone to harness collective strengths for future electoral contests.
Mr. Isoko Isioma shared insights on community engagement strategies, proposing that the party should focus on grassroots initiatives to reconnect with constituents. Comr. Simon Boi articulated the necessity of reaching out to disenfranchised voters. He urged the party to consider outreach programmes that specifically target young and first-time voters, asserting that their participation was crucial for the party’s revival and future successes.
Hon. Solomon Igudia offered a historical perspective, recalling the formidable support the PDP once enjoyed in Ika South. He stressed the importance of remembering those roots while evolving and adapting to the current political landscape.

Mr. Austin Iburuche shared his vision for a revitalized party structure, aiming to enhance communication and collaboration among party members. He advocated for an open-door policy where all voices could be heard, which he believes was essential for fostering a sense of belonging within the party.
