Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Friday at the Government House in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. According to the governor, his decision came after “three months of wide consultation” with major stakeholders across the state.
Governor Eno acknowledged the support he received from the PDP throughout his time in office, but stated that he felt it was time to take a more progressive step in his political journey.
He explained that his switch to the APC was influenced by his admiration for President Bola Tinubu and the need for Akwa-Ibom State to align more closely with the federal government in order to benefit from continued development and support.
Eno also gave assurances to the citizens of the state, promising that his commitment to their welfare would remain firm regardless of political affiliation.
He said, “After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC.”
Several APC Governors were present at the event to show support. These included Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum; Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta); Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi); and Bassey Otu (Cross River), among others.
