Community health insurance operates on the principle of risk-sharing and prepayment, where individuals contribute small, regular amounts to a collective fund, which is then used to cover the medical expenses of members when needed. This approach is particularly beneficial in rural areas and informal employment sectors, where traditional health insurance models are ineffective due to irregular income patterns and financial instability.
