The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has been confirmed as the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) candidate for the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state. Soludo, who ran unopposed, was endorsed by 3,260 delegates during the party’s primary held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Saturday.
As the sole aspirant, Soludo also nominated his current deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, as his running mate for the upcoming election.
Uche Nwegbo, the returning officer for the election, announced the results, stating that 3,260 delegates were eligible to vote, with 3,175 delegates accredited. A total of 3,172 votes were cast, with four votes declared invalid. Nwegbo confirmed that Soludo received 3,168 affirmative votes, with no votes in opposition. He then officially declared Professor Chukwuma Soludo as the APGA candidate for the governorship election.
In his acceptance speech, Soludo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, pledging to continue serving the people of Anambra State with dedication. He remarked, “Our party has grown stronger over the years, and Anambra is APGA, just as APGA is Anambra. I am truly humbled by this historic expression of solidarity, and I accept this nomination with all my heart.”
Soludo further emphasized the achievements of his administration, stating, “Anambra has been progressing under the leadership of APGA, and I will continue to support the party’s vision. We’ve been able to achieve so much without borrowing any money, and I am confident we will do even more with your continued support.”
He also acknowledged the contributions of Anambra’s citizens and industry leaders, particularly the support groups that have endorsed his second-term bid. “The support we have received has been overwhelming, including from political parties and market women eager to donate to our campaign,” he added.
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his promises, stating, “When I took office, I vowed not to let Anambra down, not to let my supporters down, not to let my family down, and not to let APGA down. We are working tirelessly to ensure success.”
Soludo, who had already announced his running mate, reiterated his decision to retain Dr. Ibezim for a second term. “In 2017, I spoke about not fixing something that isn’t broken. Today, I reaffirm that Dr. Onyeka Ibezim will remain my deputy for the upcoming election. If it’s not broken, why mend it?” he concluded, adding that the real campaign had just begun.
