In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally announced their decision to join the emerging National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG).
Rising from a crucial meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, the group—tagged Concerned PDP Elders—declared that all efforts to rescue and reposition the PDP have failed, describing the party as “irreparably damaged.” The leaders revealed that they are in advanced discussions to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition’s political platform.
Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, who chaired the meeting, read the communiqué, stressing that the coalition’s mission is to restore national unity, rebuild the economy, uphold democracy, and fight institutional corruption.
“All coalition partners must be united on the issues of national unity, democracy, the national economy, and the political will to stamp out corruption embedded in our institutions,” Senator Mark stated.
He emphasized the urgent need for all well-meaning Nigerians—especially those disillusioned with the PDP—to rally under a unified opposition banner capable of dislodging the All Progressives Congress (APC), which they accused of bringing Nigeria to “a ridiculous end.”

The group called on all progressives and national stakeholders to rise above partisanship and join the coalition to reclaim Nigeria’s future.
Leadership of the coalition is expected to be formally unveiled to the public on Wednesday, signaling what insiders describe as “the beginning of a new political order.”
