The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has refuted claims regarding a list of state chairmen currently circulating across social media platforms. The party has issued a strong warning to the public, urging vigilance against deceptive online activities carried out under its name.
In a statement issued on Thursday and endorsed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary and spokesperson for the coalition of opposition political parties, the party firmly disassociated itself from the circulating list, labeling it as entirely false and fabricated.
The list, which surfaced via a verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, contained over 30 names allegedly representing newly appointed chairpersons across various states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The national secretariat of the ADC has released names of the party’s state chairmen in all the 36 states and federal capital territory, Abuja,”
The above declaration accompanied the list, which included a detailed breakdown of individuals and their corresponding states.
“Members of the public are hereby notified that the National Secretariat of ADC has released the names of the Party’s State chapter chairmen and the Federal Capital Territory, as follows: Hanatu Garaba — Plateau; Musa S. Shuaib —Nasarawa; Adekolu O. Moses — Ekiti; Patrick Obianyo — Anambra, and Hon. Haruna Hassan —Bauchi.
“Others are Otunba Pat. Olufemi — Ogun; Celestine Orbunda— Benue; Mohammed Bolori — Borno; Comrade John Ogar —Cross River; Austine Okotie — Delta; Jennifer Adibie N — Ebonyi; Kennedy Odion — Edo; Iyke Nwoka — Abia; Stella Chukwula— Enugu; Mallam Danladi Yau — Gombe; Duke Gabriel Dick — Akwa Ibom; Alh. Sanni Mohammed — Jigawa; Ahmed Tijani M — Kaduna, and Ungogo Musa — Kano.
“Also in the list are Alh. Usman Musa — Katsina; Hajia Hawa Mohammed — Kebbi; John Adeli Udale — Kogi; Adebayo Akadi — Kwara; George Ashiru — Lagos; Chief Mrs Ganiyu Sidirika — Ondo; Auta Mohammed — Niger; Yohanna Shehu K — Adamawa; Chief Emmanuel Amushe — Imo; Charles Idowu — Osun; Alh. Yinka Adona — Oyo; Yusuf Tijani — FCT; Ode Lawrence E— Rivers; Hon. Umar Farouk — Sokoto; Adamu Hassan — Taraba; Alh. Kalli Umar — Yobe, and Alh. Kabiru Garba — Zamfara.
“Akwa Ibom State chapter hereby notifies all persons who obtained membership cards last week without the stamp and imprimatur of the state chairman to please present them at the State Secretariat of the Party at No. 84 Udotung Ubo Street, Uyo, for stamping and signature of the State chairman, and entry of their names in the Party’s membership register.”
Despite the details in the post, Abdullahi made it clear that the ADC had no involvement in the publication of the list.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to make it known to the public that the party is not aware of any appointment of State Chairmen as being circulated on the social media space.”
He further advised citizens to exercise caution and verify all party-related information through official channels.
“The ADC admonishes Nigerians to verify every of its information via the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of its National Publicity Secretary, @BolajiADC,”
“Any information that does not emanate from the appropriate communication channels of the party and verified on the X (formerly Twitter) page of the National Publicity Secretary should be disregarded.”
Additionally, the party expressed concern about the rise of illegitimate online platforms falsely claiming to handle party registration processes.
“The party also dismissed and condemned in strong terms, the information that some persons have set-up fictitious online platforms to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians of their hard-earned money under the guise of registering them to the party,”
“The ADC cautions Nigerians to be wary of such fraudulent acts and consult widely within the appropriate channels which will be made available to the general public on the activities of the ADC and the coalition of opposition political parties.”
This warning comes as political misinformation and cyber fraud are on the rise, especially in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. The ADC, along with other opposition parties, has recently stepped up its efforts under a newly formed coalition seeking to counter the influence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
