…..Blames APC for Nation’s Woes
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on Tuesday officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), receiving his membership card from the Edo State Chairman of the party, Kennedy Odion, at the ADC secretariat in Benin City.
While presenting the card, Odion described Oyegun as a seasoned political leader with a history of building successful coalitions. He stated that the former APC chairman is once again taking up the mantle to help rescue Nigeria from its current economic challenges.
“He has built coalitions before and succeeded,” Odion said. “Just like in mathematics—once you understand the formula, the solution becomes clear. He knows what he did then, and doing it again now won’t be difficult.”
Highlighting Oyegun’s Edo roots, he added, “As God would have it, he hails from Edo State, the heartbeat of the nation, and we are driving this coalition forward together.”
Odion also recalled that Oyegun chaired the implementation committee that selected the ADC as the platform for the coalition.
Speaking at the event, Oyegun explained that before settling on the ADC, consultations were held with several political parties.
“We engaged with about seven parties. Up until the very last minute, some insisted we should keep exploring other options,” he said. “So, we postponed the decision for another two weeks.”
“Eventually, after all considerations, we returned to ADC. I said, ‘Yes, we’ve done what you asked—spoken to others—but none matched the vision and dedication of the ADC.’”
Oyegun did not mince words in criticizing the ruling APC, blaming the party for the widespread hunger, economic hardship, and growing insecurity plaguing the nation, particularly in Benue and other northern states.
He lamented that under the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria has become more divided than ever before.
Addressing rumors about the ADC’s intentions, Oyegun dismissed claims that the party is working to destabilize the government.
“Those spreading such rumors are only trying to undermine our efforts,” he said. “Our goal is simple: to rescue Nigerians and restore hope.”
He concluded by saying the ADC is growing rapidly, with more prominent politicians expected to join in the coming weeks.
