Renowned journalist and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s alleged takeover by “antidemocratic forces.”
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 4, Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, Momodu announced that his exit takes effect immediately.
“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight,” the letter stated.
Momodu, who vied for the PDP presidential ticket in the 2023 elections, characterized the party as a “carcass” in the hands of those who have allegedly subverted internal democratic practices.
“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress,” he declared.
Expressing appreciation to party members for their past support, Momodu wrote:
“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times.”
His resignation comes at a time when the PDP is facing internal turbulence, with multiple defections in recent months as party stakeholders increasingly voice concerns over alleged imposition of candidates and erosion of democratic values within the party.
