John Ayuba, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s 2023 deputy governorship candidate in Kaduna State, has formally resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ayuba’s resignation was detailed in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ungwan Gaiya Ward, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
Citing dissatisfaction with the PDP’s leadership, Ayuba pointed to a lack of direction and internal mismanagement at the national level as key factors behind his decision.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write to convey my difficult decision to resign my membership of our erstwhile great party,” the letter read in part.
He expressed dismay over the conduct of some party figures, accusing them of undermining the party’s prospects and engaging in activities that worked against PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate.
“I have, over the last three years, watched with great concern the mismanagement of the future of our party at the national level by those who, I fear to say, do not mean well for its future.
These events culminated in brazen acts of anti-party activities against our presidential candidate in the 2023 general election by highly placed party members,” he added.
Ayuba also criticized the party’s leadership for failing to take corrective steps months after the general election, describing the inaction as disheartening for loyal members.
He explained that the move to the ADC came after wide consultations with political allies and supporters, concluding that staying in the PDP was no longer viable.
Despite his departure, Ayuba expressed appreciation for the PDP’s platform and the opportunity it gave him to serve as the deputy governorship candidate in 2023.
His defection marks yet another high-profile exit from the PDP, highlighting ongoing internal strife and dissatisfaction among party members, both in Kaduna State and nationally.
