Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, have been appointed interim National Chairman and National Secretary respectively of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The appointments were announced on Tuesday night following a high-level meeting of the National Opposition Coalition Group of Nigeria (NOCNG), which earlier adopted ADC as its preferred platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise was presided over by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saw a motion for the appointments moved by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and seconded by former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha. The motion was carried unanimously without opposition.
Other key interim appointments include:
Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister of Sports, as Interim National Publicity Secretary.
Kola Ologbondiyan, former PDP spokesperson, as Special Adviser on Media to the National Chairman.
In his acceptance speech, Senator David Mark pledged to lead the party with fairness, justice, and transparency.
“We will take this party to the Nigerian people. My leadership will run an open-door policy to ensure inclusiveness and internal democracy,” Mark said.
On his part, Aregbesola emphasized the party’s commitment to democratic values and providing Nigerians with a viable alternative to the current political landscape.
“I accept this responsibility to help create a true democratic platform that will offer Nigerians equal opportunity and a credible choice in 2027,” Aregbesola stated.
In a brief vote of thanks, elder statesman Kasim Imam called on the new party leaders to steer ADC in a direction that earns public goodwill and ensures electoral success in the upcoming polls.
The development marks a significant step in the ongoing reconfiguration of Nigeria’s political opposition ahead of the next election cycle.
