The State Leadership Team (SLT) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Benue State Chapter, held its meeting on 6th March 2026 in Makurdi to deliberate on critical organisational and administrative matters affecting the party in the state.
After extensive deliberations, the meeting resolved as follows:
1. Review of the Purported Dissolution Announcement
The State Leadership Team carefully reviewed the purported announcement dissolving the SLT and the MRMR Committees across the state allegedly issued by the Acting State Chairman and members of the supposed State Working Committee (SWC).
After examining the relevant provisions of the party constitution and established procedures, the meeting resolved that the said announcement did not follow the due constitutional process of the party and therefore lacks binding authority.
Accordingly, the State Leadership Team reaffirmed its continued existence, as well as that of the MRMR Committee, in accordance with Article 19(12) and Article 20(1)(g) of the party constitution, and restated its commitment to providing leadership and stability for the party in Benue State.
The meeting further resolved to make a formal report to the Deputy National Chairman, North Central Zone, regarding the anti-party activities of the Acting State Chairman and the SWC, in accordance with the directives of the National Working Committee (NWC).
2. Co-option of Members
In order to strengthen inclusiveness and broaden representation, the meeting approved the co-option of three additional members per Local Government Area (LGA) into the State Leadership Team.
3. State Elders Forum
The meeting received and considered nominations into the State Elders Forum and subsequently ratified the proposed list of nominees to serve in the advisory body, recognising their experience and commitment to the growth of the party.
LGAs with dual nominations on the SLT and the Elders Forum were directed to rectify the situation, as no individual can serve simultaneously on both the SLT and the Elders Forum.
LGAs were also instructed to comply with the nomination of at least one woman into both the SLT and the Elders Forum. The Elders Forum will be formally inaugurated following a meeting with the SLT.
4. Contribution for Membership Cards
The meeting commended the nine LGAs from Zone C, two from Zone B, and one from Zone A that have contributed ₦25 million towards the purchase of membership registration cards.
The meeting therefore resolved that the State MRMR Committee should proceed with the purchase of the membership registration cards without further delay.
5. Party Funding and Financial Sustainability
The meeting reviewed the current financial status of the party in the state and discussed outstanding obligations relating to registration materials and membership cards.
A sustainable funding strategy and revenue mobilisation framework requiring members of the State Leadership Team to continue contributing to party funding was adopted in order to improve the financial stability of the party structure across the state.
In support of this initiative:
Hon. Herman Hembe donated ₦10 million
Hon. Joseph Waya donated ₦15 million
6. Briefing from the National Secretariat
The meeting received updates on developments at the national level and reaffirmed the Benue State Chapter’s commitment to the vision, principles, and leadership of the party at the national level.
7. Strategic Direction and Immediate Priorities
The State Leadership Team resolved to intensify party organisation, membership expansion, internal cohesion, and public engagement across all Local Government Areas of Benue State.
A timeline for the implementation of the resolutions reached at the meeting was adopted.
Conclusion
The meeting concluded with a call on all party members and stakeholders to remain united, disciplined, and committed to the collective objective of strengthening the party and advancing democratic values in Benue State.
