The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) mourns the passing of Chief Dan Agbese, veteran journalist, distinguished editor, and one of Nigeria’s most revered public intellectuals.
In a statement, Convener Chief Jacob Edi described his death as “the end of an era”, noting that “an Iroko has fallen.”
For over six decades, Edi pointed out that Agbese stood as a model of integrity, clarity, and courage in journalism.
According to the NNMG leader “Agbese’s fearless commentary, sharp prose, and unwavering commitment to truth helped shape modern Nigerian media and strengthened the nation’s democratic journey.
“He belonged to the generation that challenged military rule with nothing but principle and the power of the pen. His contributions to investigative journalism, political analysis, and public accountability remain unmatched”.
To the minorities of Northern Nigeria, Edi stated that Agbese was a cultural witness and a national conscience “one who used his writings to bridge divides, challenge stereotypes, and deepen inclusion”.
The NNMG extends heartfelt condolences to his family, community, and colleagues, praying that the Almighty grants him peaceful rest and comforts all who mourn him.
