The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set March 7, 2026, for its local government congress, reaffirming its position as a formidable opposition party in the state.
The Local Government Congress is part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its structures and prepare ahead for the 2027 general election.
Briefing journalists in Asaba, Delta State capital, the Chairman of PDP wards and local government congresses for Delta State, Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, said the stakeholders meeting was to inform people in the state that PDP remained strong, firm, reliable, and very formidable in the state.
He debunked the allegation that PDP in the state is dead: “I want to use this opportunity to disabuse the minds of doubting Thomases who said that everybody has decamped to APC; this is not correct.
He stated that the reason for the stakeholders meeting was to conduct the congresses that would produce party structures, wards, and the local government and, by extension, the state.
He said, ” we are here to conduct the congresses that would produce party structures and the wards to the local government and, by extension, to the state.
“We have matched out our plans by the authority given to us from the national working committee caretakers. By way of consensus, the party members and aspirants have been briefed on the modalities of carrying out the exercise.”
“We have also formed the local organizing committee, who would be sent to the various local government areas to ensure a hitch- free conduct of the exercise.
He noted that the committee would ensure, by visiting as many local government areas as possible, that the exercise would be conducted according to the party guidelines and constitution.
He said Delta State remained the home of PDP, stressing that the people who had decamped would eventually return, and PDP would be willing to receive them.
Likewise, he urged party faithful to remain steadfast and not to be deceived by anybody.
Also, affirming the position of the Chairman of the panel, former Delta State Deputy Governor, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro thanked party faithful for their efforts, while appealing to them to keep faith with the party and not mind the little worry of factionalization.
He also encouraged members to always stand firm by the party and do everything within their power to protect the interests of the party.
Similarly, former Delta State Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice Dr. Peter Mrakpo (SAN) charged members to not be scared that it is the duty and responsibility of party members to build and rebuild and continue building the party.
