It was a moment of celebration and fanfare on Saturday as the former Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Dr Kashim Akor, NPOM, FNIM, was honoured with a Meritorious Award of Excellence by Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State.
The award was presented during the university’s combined convocation ceremony and 25th anniversary celebration, an event that attracted dignitaries from across the country. Among those in attendance were Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as traditional rulers and other notable personalities.
While presenting the award, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Marietu Tenuche, commended Dr Akor for his exceptional humanitarian and philanthropic contributions, which she said had significantly supported the institution in the areas of security, health, and educational development.
Professor Tenuche noted that Dr Akor had donated computers, solar street lights, and medical equipment to the university, in addition to sponsoring scholarships for indigent students of the institution and other schools within and outside Kogi State.
She called on other well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations, and private sector players to emulate Dr Akor’s commitment to education and community development, stressing that his contributions had positively impacted not only PAAU but also several tertiary and secondary institutions across Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the reading of Dr Kashim Akor’s citation, which detailed his achievements and contributions, to the admiration of guests and dignitaries present.
Responding to the honour, a visibly elated Dr Kashim Akor, NPOM, FNIM, expressed gratitude to the university and pledged to continue supporting its growth. He assured the institution of his commitment to attracting more developmental initiatives to PAAU, Kogi State, and the country as a whole.
