Edo Assembly Confirms Afegbua, Omorodion, Six Others as Commissioners
The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed eight nominees for appointment as commissioners in the state executive council.
Their confirmation followed a request from Governor Monday Okpebholo, which was scrutinized by the House Committee on Rules, Business and Government House.
Presenting its report, the committee highlighted 11 key findings and made one recommendation, which the lawmakers unanimously adopted.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, said all the nominees were competent indigenes of Edo State and duly qualified to serve as commissioners. He charged them to work closely with the governor in driving policies and programmes that would accelerate the state’s development.
“I charge the new commissioners to be proactive and work in synergy with the governor to ensure that Edo State moves forward,” Agbebaku stated.
The Speaker, however, expressed concern over what he described as gender imbalance in the list, pointing out that only one female was among the eight nominees.
The House thereafter confirmed the nominees through a voice vote.
Those cleared are:
- Prof. Ikponmwosa Ignatius Omorodion
- Prince Kassim Afegbua
- Nosa Adams
- Yakubu Oshiorenua
- Felix Akhabue
- Ohimai Ehijimetor
- Eugenia Abdallah
- Godwin Afekokhe Eshieshi
