The Edo State Government has commenced arrangements aimed at guaranteeing the safety of its workforce and public property across the state.
Speaking at the maiden edition of a safety drill organised by the State Ministry of Public Safety and Security, the Commissioner, Hon. Festus Ebea, said the exercise was designed to expose public and civil servants in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to modern methods of responding to fire-related emergencies.
According to the Commissioner, the drill forms part of the government’s broader commitment to safeguarding lives and assets. He directed that all emergency exit points within the State Secretariat must remain open during working hours, except at the close of work each day.
Hon. Ebea stressed that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo would not compromise on the security and safety of the people of Edo State.
Officials of the Edo State Fire Service demonstrated basic techniques for containing fire incidents, while personnel of the State Red Cross Society also participated by offering guidance on emergency response and first aid.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Saturday Uwulekue, alongside staff of Block A of the State Secretariat Complex.
The safety drill is expected to continue in the coming days, with other MDAs scheduled to participate in subsequent sessions.
