Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that at least 165 people have died, while 82 are missing, and 119,791 individuals have been affected by the floods in the country.
NEMA’s data dashboard also shows that 119,791 persons affected by the floods cut across 43 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in 19 states.
According to NEMA, the affected individuals include 53,314 children, 36,573 women, 24,600 men, 5,304 elderly, and 1,863 disabled persons.
The floods have also resulted in 138 injuries, displaced 43,936 people, affected 8,594 houses, and destroyed 8,278 farmlands.
It read, “53,314 children, 36,573 women, 24,600 men, 5,304 elderly, 1,863 disabled persons have so far been affected by this year flood.”
Meanwhile, the states with the highest number of affected persons are Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno, and Kaduna. The 19 affected places are Abia, FCT, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Rivers, and Sokoto.
NEMA’s report highlights the devastating impact of the floods on communities across the country, with children and women being the most vulnerable.
