The recent approval by President Bola Tinubu for the procurement of military hardware for Nigeria’s security agencies has been applauded.
President Tinubu, at a meeting with the flower of the country ‘s security agencies on Thursday, gave the nod for the procurement.
The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, who broke news of the presidential approval, said the move would strengthen the hands of the agencies to effectively exercise their mandate which is to make Nigerians and their properties safe and secure .
Reacting to the news of the presidential approval in a telephone chat, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited, a frontline private security firm, Mr. Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky, said the President had taken the first right step toward rekitting the security agencies for enhanced efficiency.
Monye, a public affairs analyst and Founder of Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky Foundation, said the approval speaks to the commitment of the Federal Government to ending the lingering insecurity in the country.
According to Monye, the hardware, on delivery , would help overcome the challenge of inadequate hardware available to the agencies to confront the rampaging bands of terrorists, bandits and insurgents in the country.
He recalled the apparent surge in the attacks by the insurgents, especially in and around Borno State, and said that the presidential greenlight for the acquisition of advanced weaponry represented an appropriate response to the renewed attacks by the criminals.
While generally commending the President for the move which, he said, had been overdue, Monye, an All Progressives Congress ( APC) Chieftain in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, said the development needed to be augmented with other measures, including enhanced personnel training in modern warfare, a significant increase in personnel recruitment to match the large demography our security system protects and enhanced public enlightenment on security tips for Nigerians.
Monye said that modern security challenges had overwhelmed traditional systems used to confront them, hence there was the need for the significant upgrade of the country’s security architecture.
He applauded security operatives for their huge personal and collective sacrifices in protecting the life and property of every citizen.
Monye called for ceaseless public moral, intelligence and other forms of support for security agencies to encourage them to sustain their devotion to the national cause.
