Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has raised fresh concerns over the conduct of security personnel stationed at Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, following the abduction of 25 female students by bandits.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi on Friday while receiving the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, on a sympathy visit, Governor Idris questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged withdrawal of soldiers from their duty post shortly before the attack.
According to the governor, intelligence reports indicate that the military personnel left their guard position at about 3:00 a.m., and approximately 45 minutes later, bandits invaded the school and abducted the students.
“Who gave the orders for the security withdrawal at that particular time? We request the military authorities to investigate and find out who gave the order,” Governor Idris demanded.
He emphasized that both the Federal Government and the Kebbi State Government were working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls.
Describing the incident as a deliberate attempt to undermine national security, the governor said: “Enemies are working against this government and the entire country. Kebbi will be alive to its responsibilities to rescue our daughters.”
Governor Idris thanked the NLC President and the labour leadership for the visit, noting that their solidarity had boosted the morale of the state government.
Earlier, Comrade Ajaero condemned the abduction as a calculated distraction aimed at destabilizing the peace of the state and the nation at large.
“We are here in solidarity with you. We will not waver. The entire labour movement and Nigerian workers stand by you and the people of Kebbi. We are pained, but we shall speak and act in unison to reach a turning point,” Ajaero stated.
The abduction of the Maga schoolgirls has continued to generate nationwide concern, with calls intensifying for accountability and improved security measures around educational institutions.
