Manchester United have sacked head coach Rúben Amorim, following mounting internal tensions and his public outburst after the club’s 1–1 draw with Leeds United.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday morning that the decision was taken earlier in the day, bringing Amorim’s brief spell at Old Trafford to an abrupt end.
According to sources close to the club, relations had deteriorated sharply in recent weeks, driven by disagreements over transfer strategy and a breakdown in communication between Amorim and sporting director Jason Wilcox.
United currently sit sixth in the Premier League, a position the club’s leadership believes falls short of expectations.
Confirming the decision in a statement, Manchester United said:
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of achieving the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Rúben for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.”
An interim manager is expected to be announced in the coming days as United reassess their long-term direction.
